The film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ book, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” premiered on December 7th, 2005, at the Royal Film Performance. Based on Lewis’ children’s book of the same title, the movie features a scene where Aslan, a lion, interrupts the White Witch, advising her not to invoke the deep magic. In this particular moment, Aslan engages in a discourse with the White Witch, who is reciting the ancient words of the deep magic, only to be halted by Aslan’s iconic line, “Do not cite the deep magic to me, witch.”

Posted on April 11th, 2018, a Redditor known as dickfromaccounting shared the macro with a comparable caption in the /r/memes subreddit (depicted below, top left). It quickly amassed over 35,300 upvotes within six months. Subsequently, various iterations of the meme emerged in the days that followed. In a matter of months, comic captions, coupled with the macro, proliferated across platforms such as Twitter and various Reddit threads.
