Getting Rid of A Writing Burnout: A Guide

Writing can be a tedious process; along the way, some people can get burned out. This is very normal, and many authors can testify to it. Burnout can look differently to a lot of different people but commonly it will cause you to not be able to write because nothing simply comes to mind for you to write about.

Now, as a fellow writer, sit still and stay for some burnout tips and tricks we learned so you can use them too the next time you have one!

  1. Rest and Relax

More often than not, burnout happens because you put too much stress and pressure on yourself- it could be because you are trying to reach a deadline or maybe even because you feel pressured to stick to a certain standard.

Give yourself a break; the world will not end just because you cant reach the deadline or because you fail to meet some people’s expectations. We highly advise you to take a breather- have a nice long bath, read a book, or even try taking a walk. Anything that can make you relax is good.

  1. Sleep Well

Make sure you have enough sleep- at least 7 hours a day. Lack of sleep often makes you feel tired and uninspired, so these could contribute to your burnout.

It is good to establish a bedtime routine and have a comfortable bedroom so you rest properly and sleep out your exhaustion.

  1. Try Other Creative Outlets

Taking a break from writing and pursuing other creative endeavors might help you rekindle your inspiration. Maybe you can consider painting or playing an instrument. From experience, once you engage in many types of creativity, your creative juices get flowing which can spark fresh ideas and views.

  1. Have Fun with Writing Prompts

You can find alot of writing prompts on the internet nowadays, especially in Reddit. Try to pick one at random and just write whatever comes to mind. This will really help in helping you expand your horizons and get rid of burnout, so get that book writing app out and write about some prompts!

Conclusion

There is no shame in admitting that you have burn out once in a while, as we said before: it is completely normal and expected. What matters is that you can bounce back from it and keep on writing. Until then, happy writing!
