In the campfire chat of the previously publicly broadcast Season 5 PTR, Lead Season Designer Daniel Tanguay showed Diablo 4 players a new endgame activity called Infernal Hordes.
Tanguay told players that it was the lack of feedback from their previous endgame that gave the development staff the idea for Pit feature in Season 4. In Diablo 4 Season 5, they chose to push the limits further and added a rewarding and very playable experience full of stakes and waves of monsters.
Because Diablo 4 is not like similar games that allow players to return to Hell after conquering the ultimate boss, the addition of Infernal Hordes in Season 5 will be an excellent solution.
Some players may have missed the campfire chat for various reasons. It doesn’t matter. This guide will introduce you to Infernal Hordes. Once you understand it, you will be very comfortable when you first enter Season 5.
What Is Infernal Hordes Event?
In Season 5, Infernal Hordes invites you to participate in a wave-based mode with multiple-choice questions between each wave. But it’s worth noting that it all ends with new boss encounters versus Fell Council.
Throughout the event, you can fight against the hordes of Hell’s Legions in Realm of Hatred and earn Burning Aether, which will earn you some powerful new rewards, including weapons and Diablo 4 Gold.
In the PTR that players tested some time ago, you need to complete Zarbinzet’s quest before you can start this Infernal Hordes event. You will get a Compass from him that can open the passage to Hell.
Unlike Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons you got before, Compass here includes starting difficulty, limited revives, and eight levels of difficulty Tiers. It also has escalating challenges and rewards. Doesn’t it sound great?
How Do Infernal Hordes Work In Waves?
In Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes, there are limited waves of attacks, and each wave only lasts 90 seconds. So you just need to collect enough Burning Aether in time and then attack, and you can easily fight Hell’s Legions directly.
After you defeat Infernal Hordes, they will give you some Burning Aether as a reward, which you can use to kill Aether Fiends and Aether Lords or destroy Soulspires and Aetheric Masses. Whether you explore alone or in a cooperative, you will get your own Burning Aether.
When the timer of the entire activity runs out and all enemies have been defeated, you will be given three Infernal Offers to choose from. At this time, no matter which one you choose, it will not affect the rest of the activity.
After you make your choice, you can move on to the next wave. After you have eliminated all the attack waves on a certain level, you can open Well of Hatred, and after entering it, you can participate in the battle with Fell Council.
About Infernal Offer
After you complete a wave, Hell will tempt you with Infernal Offer. This package itself has three Boons and Banes for you to choose from. You need to start to be careful about your choice, because it will affect your status in the next round, or even completely modify the next round.
You need to be aware that Infernal Offers will continue to stack up in Hordes rounds. So you can activate multiple packages at the same time after completing all waves, which will also save a little time.
About Spoils Of Hell
After each successful round, you can use Burning Aether to unlock four Spoils of Hell.
There will be four different boxes to choose from, and it is entirely up to you to choose which box to open; there are many options, depending on what you think you need. Here are Spoils of Hell you can get:
- Spoils of Equipment
- Spoils of Materials
- Spoils of Gold
- Spoils of Greater Equipment – will always guarantee an item with a Greater Affix
About Infernal Compass
There are eight different levels of Infernal Compass, and the difficulty is tied to World Tier. Each Infernal Compass Tier you reach will increase the number of waves of monsters, starting with five waves at Tier 1 to 3, and escalating.
This number will continue to increase, and each subsequent level will add a wave of attacks, up to 10 waves at Tier 8. In addition, Compasses will increase the starting difficulty of monsters and the degree of your rewards. Here you need to pay attention that it will also reduce the number of resurrections.
Currently, there are multiple ways to get Infernal Compass. The first is the new quest line, but Compass can also be obtained by defeating Endgame Bosses, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons and Whispers.
Infernal Compass is similar to Nightmare Dungeon Sigils, it opens a portal that takes you directly into Infernal Horde. Infernal Compass starts at Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3, and can be upgraded using Abyssal Scrolls up to Tier 8.
Abyssal Scrolls will drop from Infernal Horde material loot boxes, so they can be obtained early from Tier 1 Infernal Compass. Or you can choose to buy Diablo 4 Gold to get Abyssal Scrolls, it just costs a little more. Trust me, these gold will come back to you as rewards.
Infernal Compasses work in the following levels and World Tiers:
- Tier 1
These become available at World Tier 3.
- Tier 2
These become available at World Tier 4 and start to include bonus affixes that increase crafting Diablo 4 materials, legendary, and unique drop rates.
- Tier 3
Tier 3 Compasses become available at level 100. Includes affixes and bonuses to greater gear loot. Greater gear loot guarantees greater affixes.
That’s all the information about Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4 Season 5, so let’s look forward to its official release on August 6!
